Amateur Motor Cycle Association Limited
Thinking about having a go at off road Motor Cycle Sport? Not sure which type of activity to try? Well maybe this booklet will help. The ideal way is to go and have a look at an event, usually held on Sundays and if it's Trials or Enduros no charge will be made. Racing events such as Moto Cross and Scrambles will charge admission due to the high costs of staging these types of event.
In the 1960's the AMCA had about a dozenevents in the West Midlands, now we have around 200. If there is no suitable motor cycle sporting activity in your area we may be able to help. New clubs join the Association every year and we now cover most parts of England and Wales. If you need more help contact the AMCA Office at the address below.
Aims and Objectives
The AMCA was founded in 1932 in the West Midlands and the organisation has now grown to a National Organisation which is the largest in Europe specialising in Motor Cross or Motor Cycle Scrambling as it used to be called, in addition Trials and Enduro type events ore also run. The AMCA's constitution states that the Association is independent of any other organisation and is the only one whose main concern is the efficient management and control of motor cycle sport for the benefit of the rider whose primary interest is in the sport and not the reward.
One of the reasons for forming the AMCA in 1932 was to exclude works riders as they were called then who usually had a special machine provided by the many British Motor Cycle factories at that time and the same principle still holds true so that no rider has an advantage over the other riders and all machines used today must be on general sale.
How to get started
After deciding which activity to try, you then need to join a club which is preferably local but will hold the type of event you are interested in. You do not have to be a rider to join, clubs are on the lockout for people who will help organise. At one time any rider wishing to join, had to help at an event before being able to join, not many clubs insist on this ruling today. Ideally a rider joining for the first time would do well to ride trials which would help achieve the basic skills of being able to balance a bike, the use of the throttle and the other controls.
